Us Raah Pe..

Yahi to hai woh raastaa
Chalnaa to tere saath thaa
Kya sahi tha, kya galat raha
Faislaa tho mere haath thaa

Tere ashq the, tera pyar tha
Seene mein kaisa dard tha
Tere nain puuchte reh gaye
Mai hi tha jo khaamosh tha

...those unspoken words, those lost opportunities
those distant memories, aftertaste of yesterdays

Yoon Fanaa Hogaya

Saaqi gaya to maikhaana gaya
paimaana gaya, yeh deewaana gaya

Mai fanaa hogaya, to yeh kya hogaya
woh deewaana gaya, ik zamaana gaya

Dil yeh raushan hi tha, jo ke bhujhtaa gaya
Woh pilaatey gaye, aur mai peeta gaya

Koi aake gaya, aur woh aisa gaya
Na bhoola gaya, na bhulaaya gaya

Yoon hi...

Jis sej pe tera laT bikhrega
Woh sej to mera hoga

Aaina jis pe teri bindiya chipkegi
woh aaina mera hoga

.... just a thought :-)

Yeh soch ke baitaa hoon
Kis naam se tumhe pukaaroon
Badi mushkil si hogayi hai
har naam mein kami hai

Is tharah se jaanam
meri nazar mein tum ho
Har shay mein teri suurath
har manzar mein tum hi tum ho

Kithna khushnaseeb mai ke
Meri zindagi mein tum ho

... This is popcorn stuff. No doubt, I wrote this with great passion, whenever it was. I hope this is atleast useful for someone's valentines day card.. probably someday, after I become a brick in the wall of the maikhana, like khayyaam.

Aisi bheegi bheegi raaten

Well, this one was probably written in 1998 or 99, during one of our frequent 'daru' sessions in our b'lore batchelors' den. One of our mates came up with a good tune and my words just followed. I hear he got a good fan following when he sang this in his college :-)

aisi bheegi bheegi raaten,
phir na ho yeh barsaaten
aajaao, Aabhijaao tum,
baahon mein, meri baahon mein

kahin mere neendon mein,
tere khwab jeete hain
ummedon pe sote hain
ishaaron se, woh jagten hai

khile gul, sitaare hain,
haseen shab, bahaaren hain
mere is viraane mein
nazaare hain, tere saaye hai

rooh ko chuuti hui sargoshi bhi
dil ne sunli teri khamoshi bhi

kyon mere chuute hi haathon ko kheench leti ho
makhmali baahon se kis Dar ko thaam leti ho
teri har saans mein kashish meri
dilki har aah mein tapish meri

rukh pe dtalti hui mukhtaari bhi
mai ne dekhi teri naakaami bhi

... My laziness has grabbed me again. Parallal strands of thought travelling faster than light, if only i could capture and colour in words atleast a couple of them...the next minute! its all gone, only a vacant silence.. Forget it! The wise one says - sometimes there is more wisdom in an unsaid word than in thousand books.

Hawa 'agar chale bhi to, woh dheeme se chale
Yahan patha hile to, meri saanson se hile
Mere sannaatte, meri hukuumath
Mai baadshah apni tanhaai ka....

...My first post. Although until 1997 I never left Kerala or seen any place north of Chennai or Bangalore, I was always in love with the flair and flavour of poetry in Urdu. Since I couldn't read the language, my sources of inspiration were the Ghazals and Movie songs brought to life by the golden voices of Jagjit Singh, Ghulam Ali, Pankaj Udhas, Hariharan, Md. Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar & many others. Whilst the Ghazals showed me the world of Ghalib, Meer & Khayyam, the magic of the simple lyric by Gulzar, Sahir Ludhyanvi and Majrooh captured my heart.

I had to write my own, there was no two ways about it! Its probably 13 years ago that I wrote my first couplet and experienced the joy of creation. My laziness, technology and my life took me away from the poetry I so loved once upon a time and this blog is a dedication to that passion, now sleeping in some quiet corner of my heart. Just a humble attempt to keep that fire burning in there. I dont expect too many visitors here, now that you are reading this, I am extremely grateful that you browsed through. Hope you found something you liked..
